Lower Manhattan

New York Harbor and the East Village

We rode the ferry to Liberty Island, site of the Statue of Liberty, and then to Ellis Island. Many of the tourists were from other countries.

The Ellis Island park is well restored. Here is the main hall where immigrants stood in line for processing

In the East Village we stopped by the CBGB retail store. It's all that remains of the fabled but now defunct music hall that was the birthplace of American punk rock.

A few blocks away Kendra and Emily pay their respects at the location where the club once thrived. The only markers there are graffiti left by fans.

A tough bunch of punk rockers-- Emily, Kendra, and Kermit.
