Kendra's 16th Birthday

A Birthday to Remember

The Story

Just like our last visit to San Miguel seven years before, Kendra celebrated her birthday here. It was a wild day full of fun and memories.

The Photos

The previous evening at Pueblo Viejo, our waiter overheard us mention Kendra's birthday and he brought out some flan with a candle. He even tried to sing "Happy Birthday" along with us and the posed for a photo.

We began the birthday party with a visit to the aguascalientes (hot springs) at La Gruta.

The evening fun began with salsa lessons at Mama Mia. Kendra and Jocelyn picked up the steps quickly. Kermit joined in only by necessity. The only other males were the two instructors.

(Note to single guys-- this is a great place to meet girls.)

Dinner at Olé Olé for some great fajitas. Surprise #1 was a birthday cake, courtesy of Candy. We sang "Happy Birthday" in English and in Spanish!

Surprise #2. On our way through the Jardín after dinner we saw the same mariachi band from the wedding reception. For a few pesos they serenaded Kendra with Bésame Mucho. Afterwards these young musicians were quite pleased to pose with the birthday girl. Kendra was a bit embarrassed by the whole production.

Memorable Moments

At Olé Olé there was another large table filled with lots of local men finishing their dinner. Judging from the tequíla bottle on the table, they had been at it for a while. When asked, they gladly sang the Spanish birthday song to Kendra. It's a very long song. Kendra and I took over the remainder of the birthday cake and gave it to them. They were very appreciative and kind.
